Miniature Water Tower Jam Art Event to Premiere at Art All Night Trenton

TRENTON – TRENTON – Art All Night Trenton will host Stay Up!, an exhibition of miniature water towers from over 20 artists, curated by Leon Rainbow. Art All Night  Trenton will begin at 3 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2015 and continue for 24 Hours straight until 3 PM on Sunday, June 21. Art All Night Trenton will take place at the Historic Roebling Wire Works, located at 675 South Clinton Ave. in Trenton. Art All Night Trenton is free and open to the public.

Springing from a fascination with the signature design of Brooklyn's water towers, custom decoration of miniature water tower models has taken hold in arts communities throughout the country. Blank water tower kits are made by model maker Boundless Brooklyn, and then decorated with verve and personality by a collection of local artists.

The distinctively-designed water towers represent an impassioned movement in street art, in wich no-longer functional water towers became prized targets for street artists. The large and difficult-to-reach surfaces became a badge of honor for street artists, as the only way to paint their surfaces was to climb 150-foot, rusted ladders under the cover of night. These miniature models are an ode to that same spirit of courage and creativity.

"Water towers have been a narrative in some of my recent works," said Rainbow. "So art imitates life as there are several of these full-size water towers in the area from Bordentown to Trenton, New York and Philly.  Art All Night is the best venue for this project, because it brings it to this region for the first time."

There will also be an interactive component to the Water Tower Project at Art All Night Trenton. A demo area will allow guests to learn different styles and techniques in customizing the model water towers. Blank models will be available for purchase at the event for $20, with a portion of proceeds going to Artworks Trenton. "Bring your supplies or use some of ours," said Rainbow. "We want to encourage visitors to build their own water tower masterpiece, and take it home to show off to their friends." Water tower models can be reserved in advance by emailing leon.rainbow@gmail.com.
